Loma Vista Athletics – Go Lions!

The middle school sports program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of various sports while promoting teamwork, discipline, and a positive attitude toward physical activity. Emphasizing skill development, game strategies, and physical fitness, the program includes regular practices and skill-building clinics led by dedicated coaches and school staff.

Soccer, volleyball, flag football, basketball, Co-ed Cheer, and Co-ed Color Guard each have an 8-week skills clinic open to all interested students. During the clinics, coaches will hold tryouts to evaluate and select students to represent their school in competitive games against other middle schools in Alvord Unified School District. For Co-ed Cheer and Co-ed Color Guard, selected students will continue for an additional 16 weeks, participating in practices and performances at sporting events, culminating in a yearly championship. Track runs for 6 weeks and concludes with a district-wide track meet.

  • AUSD Extreme Heat and Air Quality Guidelines

    Monitoring Heat Conditions

AUSD will use the Perry Weather Monitoring Systems located at each comprehensive high school as the primary tool for monitoring heat conditions and obtaining real-time Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings. Because these schools are located within close geographic proximity, weather conditions reported by the nearest Perry Weather System will be used to help guide decisions regarding outdoor physical activities, including any necessary modifications, restrictions, or cancellations.

    Physical Activity & SB 1248

High school interscholastic athletics are addressed separately. Under SB 1248, high school athletic practices and competitions follow the heat illness prevention guidelines established by their governing body, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Elementary and middle school athletics are not governed by CIF and follow AUSD's heat-response guidelines.

Physical activity under these AUSD guidelines includes all outdoor events and physical education classes at all grade levels, TK–12, as well as all elementary and middle school sports, athletic practices, and games sponsored by AUSD and its school sites.

Our commitment is to provide a safe environment where students can participate in physical activities while minimizing exposure to potentially harmful weather conditions.

The chart below highlights CIF's Heat Illness Prevention Guidelines and AUSD's corresponding response to each heat risk level.
